Grab a bible and spend some times looking at the book of Proverbs.
As you do, think about how often the messages in this book are modelled by Jesus in his life.
Consider:
How Jesus treats others.
Jesus' attitude towards friends and rivals.
Jesus' honesty, even when it caused him problems.
Jesus' courage when things were unfair.
Jesus' concern for following God's plan.
The respect he had for his parents.
Jesus' focus on what is important in life.
Jesus' kind words.
Jesus' attitude towards work and money.
Jesus' concern for the vulnerable.
Jesus' generous nature.
Jesus' self-control.
The way Jesus' resits evil.
The way Jesus' appreciates the small things in life.
Discuss as a family people you know who you think are wise.
Do they just share knowledge and give advice,
or do they live good lives too?
Do they just share knowledge and give advice,
or do they live good lives too?
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;
fools despise wisdom and instruction."
Proverbs 1:7
Discuss as a family what this might mean?
What does fear of the Lord mean to you?
What does fear of the Lord mean to you?
Use the serenity prayer to prayer this week as a family.
God, give me grace to accept with serenity the things that cannot be changed, Courage to change the things which should be changed, and the Wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time, Enjoying one moment at a time, Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace, Taking, as Jesus did, This world as it is, Not as I would have it, Trusting that You will make all things right, If I surrender to Your will, So that I may be happy in this life, And supremely happy with You forever in the next. Amen. American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr
